How Good is Outrage Salamence?

For Bagon Day, the exclusive move has been revealed to be Outrage. Draco Meteor was already known to Salamence so that could immediately be ruled out. Exclusive moves can be extremely beneficial for the recipient. Metagross went from underachiever to the best Steel type in the game when it received Meteor Mash as its charge move. Similarly, all of the Starter Pokemon evolutions improved greatly with their own exclusive moves. Whether its Venusaur getting Frenzy Plant, Feraligatr with Hydro Cannon or Charizard getting Blast Burn, all of them received immense benefits.

However, this hasn’t always been the case. Dragonite didn’t get better with Draco Meteor, nor did Mamoswine improve greatly with Ancient Power outside of Trainer Battles. Whether or not you should get a Pokemon with that move depends on the move itself.

Salamence currently has access to the following Charge Moves:

Charge Move Type Power Bars
Draco Meteor Dragon 150 1
Fire Blast Fire 140 1
Hydro Pump Water 130 1
Outrage Dragon 110 2

Of the 4, only Draco Meteor and Outrage offer it STAB. When you look at its Fast Moves:

Fast Move Type Power
Bite Dark 6
Dragon Tail Dragon 15
Fire Fang Fire 11

The best combination before its Community Day is one of Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor, you get STAB and neutral coverage along with the highest DPS. Now lets take a look at how a moveset with Outrage and see where it stands.

Salamence

With Dragon Tail and Outrage, Salamence rises up to be the third best Dragon attacker overall. It only loses out to Palkia and Rayquaza, making it the best non-legendary Dragon move attacker in the game, even ahead of the currently unreleased Garchomp with the same moveset.

Being non-legendary, you’re going to find it a lot easier to get candies to power up Salamence and a full team of 6 is a feasible option. It outperforms even juggernauts like Dialga and Dragonite, so make sure you get as many Salamence with Outrage as you possibly can!

Just remember, Outrage is only available when you evolve Shelgons into Salamence during the 4 hour window on Community Day. From 3-6pm, you will encounter increased spawn rates of Bagon with a higher chance of encountering a Shiny version. From 6-7pm, the higher spawn rates will cease but you’ll still be able to evolve them into Salamence with Outrage.
